Love | Screen Exhibition Opening Roundtable

Upon the opening of Love | Screen exhibition, on Saturday, March 6 at 10:30 am Beijing time (March 5 @ 9:30 pm EST), we will invite four artists in the exhibition to participate in a panel discussion on ways in which social media has influenced our perception and expression of "love."  The event is open to the public.

As social media gradually comes to dominate social life, and in-person communications are eclipsed by screen chats, how do we fulfill our needs for love? Are there any genuine feelings behind a virtual picture? The four artists participating in the panel this time explore such abstract concepts through moving images, anchoring their own understandings of love in narratives of the videos. Among these artists, three made videos based on the "body," and all four of them paid intimate attention to the individual subjects behind the screen. In an age of rapid technological advancements, their works demonstrate care to the inner selves instead of an urge to connect outward. For them, corporeal experiences become an emphatic means of communication with the environment.

Following such themes, we hope to provide every participant the chance to focus back to their true inner selves in the panel discussion. Through conversations with the artists, we will get to learn stories behind their artmaking and individual experiences. Together, we wish to explore different opinions on love, and retrieve our authentic feelings despite the sweeping influence of the internet.
